Dr Fiona Shenton

Network Facilitator

Fiona is Network Facilitator at Durham University. In collaboration with the network management board she will assist and monitor projects awarded pump-priming funding. She will continue to develop the network and build close links between the scientific communities involved in vector borne diseases and the built environment. Fiona has a PhD in Neuroscience and over 30 years of experience in biomedical research. For several years she ran the Serology laboratory at the Medical Research Council Laboratories in The Gambia, providing support for numerous studies into tropical diseases of major importance. She was part of the team conducting the first ever trial of insecticide treated bednets as an intervention to prevent malaria mortality in young children. She has also worked previously in health promotion working with the general public, schools, fellow health professionals and local government to encourage healthy lifestyles.
