I am currently doing my PhD in the laboratory of Molecular Biology & Genomics, at the University of Thessaly, Greece. My laboratory has a wide experience on the management of insect pests of both medical and economic importance. My project focuses on the development of molecular species-specific insecticides based on the RNAi technology for the control of the Asian Tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus. These mosquitoes are carriers of many life-threatening viruses including Chikungunya, Dengue and Zika. The efficient control of the insects that transmit pathogens, mainly those that belong to the Aedes and Anopheles genera require the presence of strong networks that will combine the different approaches produced by the scientific community and the experience of the filed specialists. In this framework, I believe that the BOVA network can contribute to this effort and provide opportunities and resources to young researchers, like me. I am interested in joining the network because I will have the chance to collaborate with investigators that apply their expertise in the field and will help me understand the pitfalls of the current treatment approaches.
