Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a leading research organization in Africa, with strong track records in developing, testing and validating innovations for health. We are driven by core strategic mandate for research, training and services. The institute’s work spans across a wide spectrum of sciences including biomedical and ecological sciences, intervention studies, health-systems research, monitoring and evaluation and policy translation. IHI has a history of more than 60 years. It is an independent non-profit organization registered in Tanzania. As the young professional, I see this network as sustainable initiative of building intellectual framework through a powerful trans-disciplinary approach with potential to guide further research and development on housing for malaria control in Africa, and formulation of practical policy recommendations for its implementation . The problem identified by the network, of building-out vector borne diseases is scientific valid and socially valuable, and it is strongly grounded in the culture of house building and the resources scarcity within African communities. Thus form an important call of addressing the challenge through solution ownership and social learning processes. Therefore i see this network as the resourceful platform for connecting with academics and non-academics, as well as enabling platform for testing innovative ideas on better housing for vector control via multi-sectorial approach.
